If you are or have become confused about the different licenses attached to information products or software that you can buy online and then sell on then don't worry its nothing new.
Many people starting out in an Internet based business (and some that have been at it for years) are confused by all the terms relating to Resale Rights and Private Label Rights products.
In fact there's only three terms you need to understand to be a master in the whole Resale rights arena. In a nutshell, it works like this:
Resale Rights ProductYou may sell the product. You may not pass on the right to sell the product. This product is for your customers personal use only. You are bound by the terms and conditions of the Resale Rights license. You or your customer may not under any circumstances alter the product. Master Resale Rights ProductYou can sell the product and also sell to your customer the right to resell the product to his or her customers. You are bound by the terms and conditions of the Master Resale Rights license. Neither you nor your customer may alter the product unless stated in the licence. Private Label Rights ProductYou can sell the product. You can sell to your customer the right to resell the product to his or her customer. You may also alter the product. The main reason for obtaining Private Label Rights is so your customer has the right to alter the product. You are not bound by any reseller conditions. Those are the basics of Resale Rights. But like many things it can become complicated. Master Resale Rights without Resale Rights. Many Master Resale Rights products no longer give you the option of reselling the product without the Master Resale Rights. When you resell the product you must pass on the right to resell the product to your customer. The Master Resale Rights license is frequently embedded in the product itself. This is perfect for the author, he or she gets multiple vendors selling his or her product and clicking on the links. It's not so good for the seller, who inturn gets more competition. Because the phrase Mandatory Master Resale Rights, has yet to be coined for this type of license there is no way to determine at a glance just what kind of Master Resale Rights license a product carries. If you want to be able to resell a product and the right to sell that product as separate items you'll have to examine the license or look closely at the product itself in case the license is embedded in the copy. Conditional Private Label Rights. Occasionally PLR products do have restrictions in the license. Most of the time these restrictions are about product use and sale price. The product author may insist it be sold for money or, as is sometimes the rule with PLR articles, stop the buyer from selling the original product without substantial editing. Restricted PLR products are not wide spread. Generally if a product carries the PLR name you are free to manipulate it any way you like. If you are worried that a product you are interested in may have unwanted restrictions look for an unrestricted PLR label or contact the reseller.
